Apparently Bic changed the style of this classic pen, and it is now in a smoky gray plastic, somewhat translucent. To be honest, I really like the old style (white pen with black cap) and would not buy this kind again. But as far as the pen itself goes, it's same as always: writes solidly until the ink runs out.

5 out of 5 stars FIVE STARS FOR WHAT THEY ARE MEANT FOR   January 30, 2010

These Bic Round Sticks are truly work horses. They are very inexpensive, relatively reliable and quite difficult to break. They are ideal "loaner" pens for the class room as they are so ugly kids are less likely to "liberate" them. They also are non retractable so it is impossible for that obnoxious kid in the middle of the room to go click, click, click, click, click...endlessly for an entire hour or more and drive you up the wall.

The writing process is rather smooth for a ballpoint pen in this price range and leaves a nice, steady bold mark. These pens come in various colors; black, blue and purple ink and either a fine or medium point...I personally like the medium. They of course are non-refillable which is a good thing as the pens are quite difficult to dismantle and you do not have all those strange little pen parts floating around the class room. Each pen has its own cap, which is rather moot as the caps are almost instantly lost and go to the same place one sock out of a pair go each time you do your laundry. The caps are tight though, and I can attest to the fact that they will go through a washing (if the cap is secure) without leaking.

As an added bonus, these pens are so light they do little to no damage when hurled by one student at another, yet are well balanced enough to be thrown and stuck into the ceiling, tip first if tossed correctly. A young lad at a local school was able to stick six pens in a row recently in his English class room, which, or so I hear, set an all time school record. Alas, I must inform you that the school officials did not see fit to award him any sort of plaque to be placed in the school trophy case. Life just is not fair sometimes, is it? I was personally impressed but was smart enough to keep my mouth shut. The best I was ever able to accomplish at that age was three pencils in a row. They did not give me a plaque either.

These are nice pens; they are cheap and very serviceable. I have seen them selling for less at various Wally World stores though, so the buyer should shop around a bit.
