 A fine trial before jumping into a premium fountain pen December 24, 2008

My eldest son is an aspiring writer. Both he and his closest friend carry composition books so they can write anytime the words come to them. They both have also decided to use fountain pens, as it makes them feel more in tune with their writings (I, on the other hand, prefer my laptop). Fountain pens were on my son's wish list, but I was loathe to spend $50 or more for a refillable pen when I'm not sure that this will be more than a passing fad. Coming across the Pilot Varsity Fountain Pen assortment, I knew I found the right solution.
These disposable fountain pens gave him a great way to try them out without purchasing a more expensive stylus. I opted for a multi-pack since I wasn't sure how long each would write. I opted for this particular mult-pack (with colors including pink and turquoise) because 12-packs of the black pens had a four to six week delay.
My son was delighted with the gift, and is enjoying his use of the pens. While he's not using the pink and turquoise pens, neither has he gotten rid of them (or given them to his older sister).
I used to write with a fountain pen (before I learned to blind type and got a laptop), and I must admit that I am thinking of asking my son to borrow one of them for a while.

I just pull out the nib - taking care to wrap the pen in an old towel first,as it will spray a teeny bit of ink - drop ink into the reservoir with a medicine dropper, then replace the nib. It is fast, easy, and actually, less messy than the refillable pens which have plungers and the like.
These pens are fantastic. They write every time - no drying out of the nib. They never leak. I just love them, and I'm ordering this set for myself because I love the colors. They write very nicely.

I really like the idea of using a smooth writing pen and I'm obsessed with finding pens and office supplies, however, I was a little disappointed that these were so full, I prefer a smaller tip but they're a great pen!
